Can we get dementia at a young age like 20-30 years?

Most of person with dementia are above 60 years old, but it doesn’t mean can’t diagnosed with Alzheimer’s before the age of 60 years. This phenomenon usually called as Young Onset Demensia (YOD) atau Early Onset Demensia (EOD).

Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (YOAD)

Most of people that are suffer Alzheimer’s disease are above 65 years old. When someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s before he is 65 years old, it’s called Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (YOAD). Usually, YOAD suferrers start having complaints in their 40-50 years old, and have a strong genetic factor risk that must be proven by genetic checks (Familial Alzheimer’s Disease/FAD). The youngest PwD are 23 years old come from England with Dementia Parkinson diagnose that’s also related with genetic from mother. 

Alzheimer’s dementia problems in young people are generally related to genetic factors. Because parents who have Alzheimer’s dementia can also reduce the disease to their children. But the percentage of cases of Alzheimer’s dementia in young people is very small, just under one percent of people who have Alzheimer’s.

Some lifestyles that can trigger the birth of Alzheimer’s dementia earlier include lack of exercise, alcohol drinking habits, smoking, and consuming unhealthy foods that are high in saturated fat and sugar.
